Project Timeline
3 weeks
The Vortex Incubation Program was organized by the Toronto Business Development Centre (TBDC). This newly launched program selects 10 amazing talents from different career backgrounds to create a project based on a singular theme. As part of the new cohort, I decided to create a project involving my UI/UX and photography skills.
The theme was 'Connections', and for this program we were asked to work with AI. As a creative, for me 'Connection' meant working and collaborating together, and thus I decided to design a mobile app with these features.
The UI design of the app was initially inspired by the Canadian Indigenous community artwork that's usually under-represented, but to avoid cultural appropriation, I instead decided to use my own Indian culture as the inspiration.

Phase 1: Researching Various Challenges

Using the given theme 'Connection', I decided to focus on creative individuals and the challenges they faced surrounding this theme. Through Google Surveys, I asked some of these creatives the problems they were facing related to Connectivity, and most mentioned, the lack of proper collaboration channels. Based on this information, I also created 2 user personas.

Phase 2: Define the Problem

Takes forever to find a fellow creative to collaborate with

Usually collaboration costs are expensive

Sometimes individuals stop responding

Phase 3: Ideate
BRAINSTORMING SOLUTIONS WITH AI & SEARCHING FOR DESIGN INSPIRATIONS

Since we had to use AI for this project, I decided to ask ChatGPT and IdeaMap.ai about various solution statements I could work on, and decided to come up with a creative collaboration mobile app called 'Kriatve'. Another inspiration for collaboration came from Pacita Abad's work I witnessed in AGO, which talked about community artwork. The Slack's swipe feature was another inspiration to use in the app to help collaborate with artists.

UI KIT - VERSION 1
Initially, I decided to go with a design approach inspired by the Canadian Indigenous community. I used CHATGPT and Adobe Firefly for artwork inspirations.

DESIGN CHANGE!
Due to limited time for deeper research about the Indigenous community, and to avoid cultural appropriation, the feedback given to me was to change the design inspiration. Luckily, Indian and Indigenous community designs share a lot in common, & thus I decided to take that route!
